Automation Engineer – Limerick

ONG Automation is currently seeking an Automation Engineer with a strong background in Rockwell and Wonderware systems to join us for a role in a medical devices facility based in Limerick city.

 Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop technical software high level designs and follow through with systematic design and code reviews for both in house and external software development.
  • Take position of Subject Matter Expert for software portion of line platform
  • Technical lead for new project development
  • Provide technical direction within the projects group for key strategic decisions.
  • Develop Functional and Detailed Design Specifications and User Requirement Specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of code to Medical Device standards
  • High level software development capability with ability to develop, debug and validate Control System software programs
  • Advise on key site strategic decisions for project development.
  • Manage vendors to deliver high quality solutions to the business
  • Analyze, understand, fault-find and modify software programs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Ability to document own work clearly and precisely

Education / Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science OR equivalent
  • 5/6 years of experience working with and developing complex automated control systems
  • Strong PLC background in APT, Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Siemens S7, and Wonderware ArchestrA/System Platform HMI software
  • Additional knowledge of printer systems, vision systems, robotics, BCR and RFID systems would be beneficial
  • Accustomed to working in a validated environment with strong discipline regarding change control.

Automation Engineer – Cork

ONG Automation have an immediate requirement for an Automation Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience of programming PLC and SCADA systems. The selected engineer will be based from our offices in Little Island Co. Cork and will report to the ONG Automation Project Manager. They will execute projects both individually and as part of a team, with attendance at client sites as required.


  • Third level qualification in Software, Automation, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Experienced within the Life Science, Food & Beverage, Manufacturing sector
  • Strong project experience required.
  • PLC experience including Allen Bradley and Siemens.
  • SCADA experience including Siemens, Rockwell & Wonderware.
  • Good documentation practices as per GAMP 5
  • Must have a strong command of both oral and written English and have strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to keep work pace and meet deadlines.
  • Good organising and planning skills.

Automation Engineer – Mayo

ONG Automation are looking for an experienced Automation Engineers to work on secondment, with our client based In Ballina, Co. Mayo. The successful candidate will work directly for our client and will report to the Automation Manager. The objective of this role is to support the highly automated, production processes in a leading-edge process / manufacturing plant. This involves interrogating, at PLC level, machines and processes that support the overall automated production systems which run on a 24-hour basis. The Automation Engineer provides a troubleshooting service as batches are pushed through Rockwell Batch software systems, which forms the basis of automated traceability for compliance.


  • Third level qualification in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Life Sciences or equivalent.
  • The successful candidate shall have 5 – 7 Years working experience in a similar role.
  • PLC experience including Allen Bradley SLC, PLC5, CompactLogix & ControlLogix
  • SCADA experience including Rockwell RS Batch, RS View & FactoryTalk View
  • Provide Automation Helpdesk support un-assisted.
  • Actively support automation aspects of process improvement projects
  • Modify software as required by process improvement projects and to mitigate any gaps in existing code.
  • The Engineer must be proficient and apply OE tools and techniques in driving technical solutions for the business.

Automation Engineer - (Shift)Limerick


ONG Automation is currently seeking Automation Engineers for shift roles in a food production facility based in Co. Limerick. The successful candidate will provide specialist engineering, automation/control support and technical leadership within the factory for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Electricity and Automation (E&A), and FAS (Factory Automation Systems / Industrial IT), encompassing operational activities, maintenance and projects; doing so in line with corporate guidelines, ensuring that all activities enhance business objectives, product quality and plant operation/performance. The delivery of these programmes are mandatory to ensure that people health and safety, product safety, and environment are never compromised.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Full Compliance: Ensure Process & Equipment safety for people, products and environment and that one exhibits an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations. Ensure that the Change Management is in place to appropriately manage modifications in the MES-E&A solutions.
  • Operational Support: Ensure that the performance of automation and MES at factory site level, are in line with the production requirements. Participates in the implementation of engineering tools at site level (i.e. NSAT, NEST, AMM, etc.). Ensure that all MES-E&A installations comply with market and corporate safety, health, environment, product safety and product quality standards. Ensure that the key MES-E&A documentation is up-to-date and in place (i.e. SLD, URS, FDS, Calibration procedures, etc.). Participate in the M&I activities in the factory.
  • Product and Process Mastership: MES-E&A engineers play a key role in the continuous improvement of our factories through mastering the process and product characteristics. The MES-E&A engineer must have a deep insight of the processes, and continuously strive for the improvement of quality, safety or efficiency while protecting the technological know how and competitive advantage.
  • Project Management: Participate in capital investment projects in the factory ensuring that the technical solution follows corporate and market standards and is delivered with the expected quality, being on time and in budget. Responsibilities include: the preparation of the user and technical specifications, coordinating the requirements of the main users (production, quality, etc.), the follow up of the solution development, the pre-test, implementation and training of operators and maintenance crews. Must fully understand the technical details of the MES-E&A solutions in all projects.


Education / Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Automation and/or MES engineer, with Electrical experience
  • Recommendation to have participated in an MES-E&A Engineering College
  • PLC experience including Allen Bradley and Siemens.
  • SCADA experience including Siemens, Rockwell & Wonderware.
  • Personnel Supervisory experience (with technical teams, mechanical and electrical (contractors, suppliers or other 3rd parties)
  • Participation in the trouble shooting and the various aspects of maintenance of a manufacturing plant
  • Participation in the development of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team (preferably including different products and technologies in Electrical and Automation areas)
  • Participation in the start-up or commissioning of technical equipment and/or production line(s)
  • Self Management following defined KPIs/Objectives, and proactively tracking them
  • Exposure to TPM, preventive maintenance planning and/or maintenance execution desired but not required
  • Determination of methods to minimize the likelihood of injuries or damages to people and/or equipment (SH&E)
